All About Lash Extensions

Lash extensions

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent, synthetic or real mink, individual extensions that are applied one by one to each individual natural lash. There are many different lengths, thicknesses, curls and even colors (although the most popular being jet black) available to create a completely customized look to enhance and define your natural beauty!

Do they damage your natural lashes?

If applied properly by a trained and certified lash artist then lash extensions should NEVER cause damage to your natural lashes! Nor does the application hurt! In fact, it is a very relaxing experience that most of our clients will fall asleep and have a smallish lash nap. The health of your natural lashes is our top priority and therefore we will never apply an extension that is too long or too heavy for your natural lash to support. We also take our time applying your extensions so that no lashes will be stuck together as a result of a rushed appointment! It is recommended however that you do not pull or tug at your extensions as this could result in premature lash loss. The extensions will shed naturally when your natural lash is shed at the end of it's growth cycle, If you find yourself needing them removed for whatever reason, please come in and see us for a quick and painless removal process!

How long do the extensions last?

This is different with everyone but with proper home care your extensions will last you between 6-8 weeks.  It is important to remember that due to natural shedding of our lashes you will lose between 3-5 lashes everyday so touch ups are important if you are wanting to keep your lashes nice and full! Most clients will come in every 3 weeks on average. If you are loosing your extensions quicker than this, it may be due to improper home care, not cleansing the lashes well, sweaty or oily eyelids causing buildup or buildup due to makeup not being thoroughly removed. Various medications, hormones, allergies, lifestyle choices, daily activities or even seasonal changes could all affect retention. If you are having a problem with retention please contact us immediately so we can try and troubleshoot the cause of this with you! We really do want everyone to love and get the most out of their extensions!

Can I wear makeup, mascara and/or eyeliner?

Short answer: Yes AND No...

In most cases that lashes that we use are black as is the adhesive. For this reason, you really don't need mascara and in most cases, you don't need eyeliner either. If you are going to wear makeup, we recommend using oil free products so that you may extend the life of your extensions. We also would recommend cleaning your lashes as soon as possible to keep any buildup off of your lashes. If you are nearing your touch up appointment and must wear mascara please only use the mascara on the tips of your extensions so as not to damage the existing extensions. Ask us about a extension safe mascara/eyeliner that is oil free and safe to be worn with your extensions! Also, if you have any type of volume lashes on, then mascara is a no-no anyway as it will close up your volume fans and make it look like you are missing lashes when you are not!

How do I clean my extensions?

Not only do we recommend but it is necessary to clean and brush your lashes daily. This is to not only keep your extensions looking good, but it also stimulates the follicles which results in numerous, long natural lashes but it also helps to prevent infections, irritations and other major health issues. You will want to first use an oil free makeup remover and then follow up with an approved cleanser that is formulated specially for your extensions. If you are coming in for a full set, we will provide you with a sample in your aftercare kit.

Caring for your extensions...

  • Avoid excessive heat/steam as this will relax the curl of your extensions

  • Avoid oil based products/creams/makeup, use only water based mascara/eyeliner if you must use them.

  • Do not pick/pull/fiddle with extensions, if you need them removed, please come in to have them removed.

  • Do not perm/tint extensions

  • Do not use lash curlers- if you desire more of a curl it can be addressed at your next appt.

  • Do not rub your eyes. Use your mascara wand in an upward sweeping motion (never side to side) or rub your lower lash line while your eyes are open to relieve the urge to rub at your eyes.

  • Do not cut the extensions, if a shorter length is desired then it can be addressed at your next appt.

  • Use a cleanser daily and brush your lashes once in the morning and once in the evening to keep them well groomed and straight.

  • Try sleeping on your back as you will notice more lash loss on whichever side it is you sleep on. Please avoid sleeping on your stomach at all costs if possible.

  • Come in for touch up appointments between 2-4 weeks to keep your lashes looking their best.

All About Lash Lifts

lash lifts

What is a Lash Lift

A lash lift is a great alternative to eyelash extensions or for clients with sensitivities. It is a low maintenance lash solution for clients as results lasts up to 12 weeks although 6-8 weeks is typical. Using your own lashes, it is permed against a silicon rod to give it a natural looking "lift".  These are perfect for those who have straight or downward facing natural lashes, giving your eyes and face an instant lift! You will look more awake and even more youthful!

You can ditch the  lash curler and mascara and with just one  professional treatment you’ll have a sumptuous lash lift that is retained, even after a shower or swimming, that can last 6-8 and even 12 weeks. At Lash Lounge we use a unique technique combining a lifting lotion and silicone rods or pads to lift your natural lashes, making them look longer and fuller. Lash Lift is a fantastic alternative to eyelash extensions and there’s virtually no after-care required! Just wake up and get going with your beautiful lashes!

What can you Expect from a Lash Lift?

No down time required

Makes natural lashes appear longer without the use of eyelash extensions

Minimal after-care required! Swim, shower and play with no fuss

Lasts about 6-8 and in some cases even up to 12 weeks!!

Suitable for short or long eyelashes

Superior formulation that is nourishing and conditioning

Lash Lift Aftercare

Do not use water or cleaning agents on your lashes for 24 hours as it may soften the perm.

Avoid rubbing or touching the eye area, as you could irritate your eyes. Also, if you sleep weird then it could affect the overall outcome.

Avoid spending too much time in direct sunlight right after your treatment, as this could weaken the perm lotion.

If you plan to have any other eyelash services done to your lashes, you must wait 48 hours before your next service.

How long does it last?

Lash lifts last between 6-8 weeks. Lashes shed everyday and eventually, due to new lashes growing in, your lashes will go back to normal. Permed lashes may also eventually relax.  You may repeat the perm after 1-2 months and NOT have to wait until you have an entire new set of lashes.

Will it Damage my Natural Lashes?

No, as a matter of fact, nourishing ingredients in the perm products prevent lashes from becoming dry or brittle, keeping them luxurious and healthy. Rest assured that House Of Winks - Blink & Beauty Bar only uses the best and safest products on the market.
