Lashes, the start of it all... This is my story!

Welcome to my blog! I am so excited to be starting on this new let of my journey. The idea behind my blog is to have a place where everyone can go and get an answer to all their questions.

I am a licensed cosmetologist who fell in love with doing hair early in life. While still in high school I wanted so much to color my hair and was devastated when my mother told me no. Not being one to take things lying down, I took it upon myself to doing my own hair and the rest is history. I went from doing my hair to my friends asking me to do theirs. I didn't go right into cosmetology school though. I kept hearing that I could always fall back on hair, and that I needed to get a real job and other things of that nature. I tried. Life happened. And in the end I ended up in cosmetology school despite what everyone told me... That i'd regret it, I'd never make any money because there were too many other hair stylists out there, etc. etc.

But you know what? They were wrong. Now I am not saying that it was an overnight success because it was far from it and more hard work than even I had given any thought to but anything in life worth having is going to require you to put the effort in. That is exactly what I did. I got a job at a chain salon right out of school and then at a small privately owned kids salon. During which time I realized that I wanted to take my career in a different route. And then I found lashes...

I found lash extensions to be a very luxurious service and became intrigued. I actively sought out everything on the subject I could find. So when I heard a salon was opening that offered the service exclusively and was hiring I was over the moon. I jumped at the chance. I was given what equaled a weekend crash course in lash extensions and was then turned loose. I thought I knew all I needed to know but found out I was sadly mistaken when my clients started coming to me with questions. Everyone else that was hired in with me was newer to lash extensions than even I was and since the owner lived 900 miles out of town where she had another salon I found myself drowning in all the things I didn't know. I had no other choice than to find another mentor.

I soon found myself as the only lash artist at the new salon after everyone else had quit not even 2 months after the salon had opened. I was determined to make it work though. Afterall, I had a husband and 3 kids at home that I had to help support. I found myself once again soaking up everything that I could find. When I had a question I would go to my new mentor who had over 10 years in the industry. I worked my butt off. I advertised and put myself out there. I was running the shop and I was making it work. But I wasn't happy. I was burnt out after only 6 months. I was working 24/7 in a business that wasn't even mine and I was doing ALL the work and only getting paid a % of what I was bringing in. I was told that I needed to be faster so I could see more people in a day since I was completely booked.

And then something happened...

Don't be afraid to start something!

I realized the only think keeping me where I was... Was me.

So I started thinking again about what I wanted, what would make me happy, and how to get there. I came up with an idea and then developed a plan around that idea. It took a lot of hard work and was by no means easy. I had the support of my husband as well who was amazing through it all. I sought out additional training in teeth whitening, spray tanning, and microblading and opened up my own suite. But I also wanted to make sure that I could help mentor and guide those who either wanted to branch out in a new direction or found themselves lost and burnt out like I did myself.

I have truly never felt so blessed or so successful. If you have any questions please feel free to comment, email, or follow me on social media. I will try to address as many topics as possible through my blog but will also be adding a Youtube channel soon as well as working on launching online training courses soon!

Until next time
